Single Dad: Rob

To find a place of balance and structure, sometimes it truly does take a village or better yet, framily. Within the last four years post divorce, Single Dad Rob has increased his salary by thirty thousand dollars, established himself in the martial arts arena and set a solid foundation for his #1 Guy, his son.

Rob’s frame of mind during his divorce, was like anyone of us, not so good. During the separation/divorce process he quit his job as an act of self-love which resulted in living off his savings and increased credit card debt. Out of his depth and quickly sinking, Rob’s chance encounter with a friend put him back on course.

The conversation lead to Rob getting hired and significantly increasing his salary. The biggest hurdle was facing the debt head on. Seeing the benefits of reaching out and asking for help, Rob asked a friend to help manage his money. One of the most important takeaways from his friend’s guidance has been, “Countries run on debt, debt is a part of life. What makes the difference is how successful you are at managing your debt. So don’t be discouraged.”

Through a not so simple act of simplifying his life Rob has managed to pay off almost all of his credit card debt. He says, “I like simple, because simple works.  Make an outline using you net worth. See what you need and what you can do without, make a payment plan, or consolidate your debt. Use your company’s fringe benefits to the fullest.”

Starting 2020 he will be able to rearrange his numbers to focus on buying a home. Through his actions, Rob’s goal is teach his son to value what’s important to him and feel comfortable making sacrifices to get those things.

Divorce is truly a form of rebirth. Ultimately, it’s up to you to determine what direction you’d like to go. Rob’s positive outlook and desire to keep challenging himself has a created a path for a more stable future.
